I have been curious about clouds in paintings lately; now this ‘croissant’ hovering above a canadian lake is a first! Lawren Harris (1885-1970; important member of the ‘Group of Seven’) gives a striking illustration of ‘menacing weather’ though. Look at all these claws-like forms squeezing in the spot of light . This one, ‘Clouds, Lake Superior’, was painted in 1923, and Harris already was moving towards abstraction ( Winnipeg Art Gallery ). Thank you, strandline for leading me to this artist.
Do look up this stumbler, he is full of interesting posts and comments ( very well written too!).
