Emily Carr, Victoria BC, Canada 1871-1945.
She builds strong, stylised landscapes, with a style of her own that was influenced though by The Group of Seven, and notably Lawren Harris (see her ‘Tree Trunk’ and Harris ‘North Shore Lake Superior 1926’ ; see Harris also 3 posts below).

‘Tree Trunk’1931

Lawren Harris, ‘North Shore Lake Superior’

Emily Carr, ‘Blue Sky’, 1932.

Almost claustrophobic because of these intense hues and the frontality.

One of her main interest was the First Nation’s culture.
‘Big Raven’, 1931
