Jean-Paul Lemieux (Quebec,1904-1990).
The first picture comes from the November page of my Canadian calendar.
I love that vast snowy landscape with the solitary child in a sunny coat. It doesn’t seem to warm her up. She looks lost in the universe.
It is all about loneliness really.
The stiff teenager also seems forlorn in his cold geometrical surroundings.
The pale yellow monochrome makes him almost lifeless; and no hope could be coming from that black door.
I like the deceptive simplicity of these paintings.
